mounties academy lacrosse staff

Mounties Academy Lacrosse is like no other. Our unique approach to non-toxic athlete development is unique in the high-performance space and has proven to be extremely effective in both skill development and keeping athletes invigorated for the game.

Our program is able to not only bring high-end instructors to every floor-time, but we pride ourselves in putting more high-end instructors on every floor than any other program. We also enjoy bringing out top caliber guest instructors.

Our instructors are all (or in some cases, were) high-end players in their own right with most having experience in Jr A, Sr A, NCAA, or the NLL. Our approach ensures that players get the maximum rep-time during practice, but also benefit from extensive one-on-one time with coaches without disruption of drills.

Many of our academy instructors are head or assistant coaches with various Jr teams so not only are our camp players getting high-end instruction, but they are getting coached by the actual people who could very well end up being part of their Jr coaching staff.

Dayna Dyck
I just wanted to send you and your coaching staff a big thank you for putting on this camp. Great concept for the graduating midgets, Mason thoroughly enjoyed being on the floor with all of you!!

"Thanks again for an amazing Jr Prep Camp. I genuinely cannot say enough good things about it. Nolan’s growth as a player and more importantly as a human being was phenomenal."

- Corey Heikamp, parent

co-founder

Steve is a co-founder and former Executive Director for the Mounties YouthCamps (now called Mounties Academy Lacrosse). Steve first got a taste of lacrosse when he moved to the Calgary community of Willow Park in grade 6 and was subsequently convinced by a few hockey friends to give lacrosse a try. It was at this time he was introduced to, and played with what would become some of the best Alberta lacrosse players of the modern era.

Steve has been heavily rooted in Calgary lacrosse as a coach and executive since 2004, taking on roles at the Axemen Lacrosse Association and CDLA board levels.

Starting as the equipment manager, Steve has done almost every role he possibly could, from Player Evaluations Coordinator to VP of Operations, there is no job Steve wouldn't do if there was a need. It was during this time that Steve began coaching, a career which includes head coaching roles with the Gold Medal Alberta Summer Games and Bantam City Championship team's in 2016.

One of Steve's most celebrated accomplishments is as founder the Jr NLL Calgary Roughnecks program. This program instantly and massively increased the number of opportunities available for kids to play high-level lacrosse in a championship environment at the U13, U15, and U17 levels.

Offering a pro-level experience to over 60 players a year as they get to participate in the Jr NLL Championship Tournament held every year in Oakville, Ontario since the programs inception in 2017, the Jr NLL Roughnecks is a one-of-a-kind playing and player development experience. This program provides players another real opportunity to play high-level lacrosse and compete in a pro-level tournament experience.

Steve is also the first ever recipient of the Mounties Lifetime MVP Award recognizing his indelible contributions to the Mounties organization. This is the only award that the Mounties gives out that recognizes a non-Mounties.
